WeathrClip App Reviews

62 Customer Reviews:

It’s an OK app, but one thing it does is annoying enough to make me stop wanting to use it. For some reason it apparently sometimes has trouble getting the weather data, and when that happens, it pops up a window telling me something to the effect of “can’t get weather for this location, please choose another location”. Thereby interrupting whatever Im doing, forcing me to click to make the dialog go away, and being very unhelpful (I don’t WANT weather for another location!), and all needlessly so — If I’m not looking at the weather, I don’t particularly care that it is having trouble getting the weather, right? It could just put “??” up in the menu bar and give you an error message if you click on that to look at the weather. Otherwise why annoy the user? I’m tired of it. And really all I want is the temperature in the menu bar anyway; I can easily get weather details in my browser when I need them.

Can see my PWS

Looked forever to find a menu bar app that will let me view my PWS and others. This will do just that!

WeathrClip has been my go-to for the last five years. Lately there have been problems and more problems. First, it would never find my location and the developer said it was a problem on the weather source’s end. Ok, fine. That problem eventually cleared up. Now, it never refreshes when I wake my laptop. I have to manually selection a location since it seems unable to find mine anymore. I tried emailing the developer at the address listed above in the product description, but it bounces back to me with an “unknown user” error. What gives? I miss WeathrClip!

WeathrClip presents an instant, compact display of current weather conditions surrounding your chosen location, including current temperature, daily range, dew point, sky condition, sun rise/set times, UV, wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, relative humidity, and an animated weather map (which can be suppressed). The data is drawn from weather stations in the selected area, and updated at a user-specified interval. Click on the sun/cloud/moon image in the upper area to see a history of the conditions. When running, an icon is placed in the menu bar. Click the icon to see the display. The weather map appears to show a radius of up to 120 miles or so around the current location. It cannot be zoomed in/out, but the “WU" button opens the Weather Underground web site in a browser, where maps and more detailed information can be found. I appreciate the immediate display of the map and local conditions, without having to go to a weather site in a browser. The product support is great. In several years of use, I’ve had a question or issue twice, and the developer has responded quickly and attentively.

THIS is the weather app I finally chose after trying a dozen others. What I want in a weather app - that I wasnt getting in others - is: 1) unobtrusive menu bar presence displaying just the temperature now. 2) ability to quickly access more detailed info such as a 3 or 5 day forecast, radar map, precip, uv, etc. 3) attractive, classy color graphical display 4) quick installation and simple simple simple prefs! Weather Clip delivers all of the above. Im totally happy with it.

I tried a number of apps to replace the weather app on my dashboard, and this is what I settled on. The display is elegant enough, but the weather seems detailed and accurate. It uses data from the Weather Underground, and so it offers valuable data whether youre in Canada or the United States. In future versions, I would look for an option to make larger radar screens, but right now this app gave me what I needed, wasnt too flashy about it, but it didnt clutter up my desktop either. And the price is right. I recommend it over the others.

Very useful, very simple to use. I had a small issue with the app so I emailed the dev and within the hour he replied and provided instructions to solve the issue. I couldnt have asked for better.

Simple, clean and just the right amount of information. For me this is the perfect little weather app. And if you need support the seller is very responsive to emails.

I had a question about this app, so emailed the developer. Almost instantly got a response, got my question answered and therefore bought the app. Its absolutley perfect for my Mac. I find Im using it every day now. How did I live without this!! And cant say enough about the developer, so quick to respond.

Nice UI and icons, but off on the tempature by a lot. I checked the site that this app says it gets the data from and even their readings were showing the right outside tempature. This app cant seem to get the right readings from the site it is using.

This was a great app, until the update. Now it can’t find weather stations that it previously used. I enjoyed the previous versions, and rated it highly. The update is a big step BACKWARDS.

Grima1ex v1.3.2 · 12 years ago

The more time I spend with this App, the more I realize what a bargain I got! The App is extremely user friendly, with pinpoint accuracy. The map options are limitless. Youll find they offer as much or as little as youll need in your search for weather/travel details in your day, or down the road. It offers local, regional, national, and world wide weather in depth. World wide weather detail is wonderful. The Radar is great..no pixels..smooth and sharp. This is so much more than the current weather Apps out there..you wont want to exit! AND..having a question a few days in..I found the developers response was as great as the App..I heard back within the hour, and had the response that helped. Appears they have a winner with this app, and its only going to get better as they offer more.. All you could ask for!

okay

would be better if it had an hourly forecast for the current day

Radar not accurate

If there is fog or overcast in our area (SF Bay Area), the radar map represents this as rain, when it is not.

Please make it starts up with mac.

Its the best weather so far. very straight forward weather information.

Apart from the occasional bug, its great.

I love it. Works really well and looks beautiful. Add hourly weather support and it would be one of the best for sure. (:

Ive tried lots of Mac weather apps & this is the only one that works for me. I commute between two different cities, so I need an app that lets me choose multiple locations. The auto ip feature is great, but sometimes not completely accurate.

Been using this app for weather on my MacBook Pro with Retina display, and really like it. Unfortunately, the buttons along the bottom of the app window only display halfway on my Retina display. On my wifes MacBook Air (non retina) the app works just fine. Both running the current version.
